Gunung Kawi Tour

With Tanah Merah Art Resort as the perfect starting point, this tour is highly recommended for anyone who wishes to experience the many places of interest for which Bali’s Gianyar regency is famous.

Our tour starts with a scenic drive through the lush rural landscape to see a rare exhibition of mammoth and cave bear carvings performed by Bali’s world known master carvers.

We then continue to the enchanting Tirta Empul temple located near Tampaksiring. The temple is dedicated to Vishnu and famous for its holy spring water where Balinese Hindus go to for purification as they believe that the water will cure illness.
Next stop is the monumental Gunung Kawi, an ancient 12th century Hindu temple complex located near the sacred Pakerisan river. A scenic walk through the lush river valley and rice fields takes us down to the majestic stone shrine memorials, which were carved directly out of the rock face and are surrounded by a certain kind of mystery.

The remaining part of the tour offers you the opportunity to sample taste Bali’s famous Kopi Luwak coffee, made from coffee beans swallowed by the Luwak or Asian palm civet cat, as we stop at a local coffee plantation that grows cacao, coffee, and a wide variety of herbs.

Before returning to Tanah Merah Art resort for a well-deserved rest, we stop to enjoy some of Bali’s most breathtaking rice field terrace views.

We advise you to wear sensible footwear when walking on the path down to Gunung Kawi.
